Months is the eighteenth (assuming read left to right) skill of the Welsh language tree. It has three lessons, and the major theme of this unit is the months of the year and the seasons.
Grammar notes[]
Months[]
The months in Welsh are always preceded by the word mis, similar to how all the days of the week are preceded by the word dydd. When saying "in" a certain month, use ym instead of yn:
- ym mis Awst = in August
- Mae'r dail yn cwympo ym mis Hydref. = The leaves fall in October.
Seasons[]
Always use the definite article when talking about the seasons:
- Dw i'n mynd i Abertawe yn yr haf. = I am going to Swansea in the summer.
- Dyn ni'n mwynhau gwylio'r dail yn yr hydref. = We enjoy watching the leaves in (the) autumn.
Watching the days go by[]
When you are describing observations, you also use yn before the second verb:
- Dych chi'n gwylio'r dail yn cwympo? = Are you watching the leaves fall?
- Dyn nhw'n gweld Megan yn ffonio Celyn. = They see Megan phoning Celyn.
