Comparing 3 is the eighty-third skill in the Welsh language tree, and it teaches the superlative form of adjectives with three lessons. The superlative is words like "best" or "most".
Grammar Notes[]
To form the superlative in the majority of cases, you just have to add -a (or in some dialects -af) to the end of the adjective for many adjectives:
- Hi ydy'r orau. = She is the best.*
- Y dyn 'ma yw'r dala yn y dre. = This man is the tallest in town.
* note because the subject is feminine, it's orau and not gorau.
Just like in English, longer adjectives like poblogaidd don't take that ending, but instead add mwya ("most") in front of it:
- Fi ydy'r mwya poblogaidd yn yr ysgol. = I'm the most popular in the school.
Those are always used in emphatic sentences like used above. Because of this, you can't use bod if they're in secondary clauses. Instead, you use taw or mai.
