Basics 2 is the 2nd skill (assuming read left to right) in the Portuguese language course. It has 4 lessons and teaches some words for basic things, eating, and drinking.

Grammar Notes[]

"A" or "O"?[]

In Portuguese, "a" is used for feminine nouns and "o" is used for masculine nouns. For example, "a menina" means "the girl" (feminine), and "o menino" means "the boy" (masculine).

Você and Ele/Ela[]

When using "ele" (he), "ela" (she), or "você" (you) in Portuguese, and the verb ends in ‑er (like "escrever" or "comer"), you just remove the final ‑r. For example, "ele escreve" means "he writes" (remove ‑r from "escrever"). "Você" is generally used to address someone politely as "you". In some regions, "tu" is also used for informal "you", which will be discussed in Portuguese Skill:Tu or Você.
