Basics 1 is the 1st skill in the Portuguese language course. It has 3 lessons.

Grammar Notes[]

Grammatical Gender[]

In Portuguese, nouns are classified as either masculine or feminine. Typically, nouns ending in "‑o" are masculine, while those ending in "‑a" are feminine. For masculine nouns, the article "um" is used, and for feminine nouns, "uma" is used.

Omitting Subjects[]

When it comes to pronouns, in English, you always need to use words like "I," "he," and "she" before a verb. However, in Portuguese, you can say "Eu sou uma mulher" (I am a woman), or you can omit the pronoun and just say "Sou uma mulher" (am a woman).
