Grammatical Genders[]

All nouns in Norwegian have a grammatical gender: masculine, feminine, neuter. In this skill, you will learn about neuter nouns. Feminine nouns are explained in detail in Norwegian Skill:Feminine.

Neuter
et egg

The indefinite article of all neuter nouns in Norwegian cannot be replaced by a masculine indefinite article.

"The" in Neuter[]

In Norwegian Skill:Family 1 we learned how to form the definite article form of masculine nouns. In this skill we will also learn how to form the definite article form of neuter nouns. Forming the definite article form of neuter nouns is also very easy. Just add -et to the noun.

  • brød + -et = brødet
  • egg + -et = egget

Adjectives in Neuter[]

And when the adjective is neuter, you must add -t after the adjective.

  • god - godt
  • kald - kaldt
