  • Sorry, changing that image for some reason was screwing with line wrapping in Chrome, so I reverted the main page back to the 20:23 version. If you'd like a screenshot let me know and I'll post one.

    • Chrome on desktop or mobile?

      The problem I'm having with Duo.png is that it doesn't scale down correctly on mobile. I tried it with both Firefox for Android and the default Android browser and it's too big in both. Other images seem to have the same problem (e.g. the flags), it's just most noticeable with Duo.png.

      This is a problem I already had before today's changes. Not sure of the cause. The weird thing is that I don't seem to have the problem on the test page I made, User:Stec/Test/Duolingo Wiki, even though the code is pretty much the same.

    • It might be related to something new that wikia has just deployed that is affecting display layout. See Layout_Changes:_Breakpoints_and_Typography, you should report this using Special:Contact/bug.

  • First, there is a new way of templating called Lua templating . I've changed our regular Template:crow to use it.  Also the infobox is based on lua templates

    This has a couple of advantages:

    • Easier to use -  no more infinite curly brackets; '
    • We can automate stuff - Like calculating fields; and so on.

    I've made some improvements:

    • Phase - Automatically calculate the phase based on date columns;
    • Stats - Like number of courses, time taken in each phase;
    • Web availability - this column is calculated automatically once you enter a date;
    • Changed icons - now it displays icons for available or not;
    • Variables - I store the data of each row to create stats;

    Maybe some other things I can't remember.

  • Nicely done with the study aids page. But I think one advantage of having all links in one page was that people knew where they could easily add them. You created links to several pages, but now the problem will be that people may not add the links properly, or may add them randomly in any page. 


    We need to think of a consistent way of adding such links to the language pages.

      Good point. But Dutch (Netherlands) doesn't. As you can see  we'll always have to play catch up to make sure people are routed to the right page. Maybe we could use a template like the one in the news calendar extension to automatically create a new page. e.g:

      Clicking any day there will automatically create and populate a new page using a template I created previously.

    • Just wanted more contrast for readability. I think black on white for main content and black on light blue for main/nav/newsbox headers works better than black on medium/dark blue.

    • Oh okay, I saw you also removed the tabber colors. I thought it helped visualize the tabs better, I just didn't quite like the background color. Although, I was too lazy to fix it.

    • At first I tried just changing the main text background color but then the border seemed out of place, so I just went for the default style. I've just added back a light background to emphasize the tab names a bit, though.

    • Yes, I think it is fine now. Though the border emphasized the fact that it was a tab, but it is not really necessary.

  • I guess we had the same idea regarding the course table. I was planning to change it row by row, and you thought of the table as a whole. :)

    • I've been thinking if we implement the template correctly, we can also add a column to deduce how much time it has taken thus far in a new column, or maybe use a column to show it until the respective row has been updated.

    • Nice job on the course row template. It actually helped identify some wrong calculations in the course table.  There were at least 3 wrong calculated days!!!
