Hiragana 1 is the first skill in the Japanese language tree. It has five lessons in which you learn basic hiragana and a few words using those characters.
Alphabet notes[]
Hiragana is one of the three writing systems used in Japanese. The other two, kanji and katakana, are introduced in later lessons.
Most of the characters learned in this skill are similar to English letters except:
- ち is pronounced like the consonants in the word "itchy";
- ん will sound like an m before p or b (hence "tempura" not "tenpura") and it'll also never start a word; and
- The r of ろ (and similar characters) is closer to the t in "butter" than the r!
