Lesson 1[]
- カット (ka-tto) = haircut
- 髪 (ka-mi) = hair
- 髪がめちゃめちゃだ。 is a mess
- 髪の毛 (ka-mi-no-ke) = hair ("hair's fur") [毛 (ke/fur), do not confuse with 手 (te/hand)—one curls to the right and the other, left.]
- Note: Since 髪 and 髪の毛 both mean "hair", 髪の毛's use becomes especially useful when writing in Hiragana or when speaking, given 髪 (かみ/hair) would be easily confused with 紙 (かみ/paper).[1]
- 髪の毛を切らないでください。(ka-mi-no-ke-wo-ki-ra-nai-de-ku-da-sai) = Please do not cut your hair.
- 美容院 (bi-you-in) = beauty salon / hair salon [Not to be confused with 病院 (byō-in/hospital)]
- 床屋 (to-ko-ya) = barbershop ("floor room")
- 床屋で髪を切ってもらいましたか?(to-ko-ya-de-ka-mi-wo-ki-tte-mo-rai-ma-shi-ta-ka) = Did you get your hair cut at the barbershop? ("At the barbershop, did you receive whilst cutting the hair?")
- 床屋でカットしてもらった。(to-ko-ya-de-ka-tto-shi-te-mo-ra-tta) = I got my hair cut at the barbershop. ("At the barbershop, I received while doing a haircut.")
- はさみ / ハサミ (ha-sa-mi) = scissors
- このはさみは切れなくなった。(ko-no-ha-sa-mi-wa-ki-re-na-ku-na-tta) = These scissors can no longer cut. ("These scissors became non-cutting.")
Lesson 2[]
- 辺り (a-ta-ri) = area (noun)
- 辺りには誰もいなかった。(a-ta-ri-ni-wa-da-re-mo-i-na-ka-tta) = There was no one in the area.
- この辺りは全く知りません。(ko-no-a-ta-ri-wa-ma-tta-ku-shi-ri-ma-sen) = I do not know this area at all.
- 黒髪 (ku-ro-ka-mi) = black-haired (adjective)
- 黒髪の女性は本田先生です。(ku-ro-ka-mi-no-jo-sei-wa-hon-da-sen-sei-de-su) = The black haired woman is Professor Honda.
- センチ (sen-chi) = centimetre
- 五センチぐらい切ってください。(go-sen-chi-gu-rai-ki-tte-ku-da-sai) = Please cut about five centimeters.
- 前髪 (ma-e-ga-mi) = bangs / fringes [hair that falls and covers the forehead]
- 前髪を切ってください。(ma-e-ga-mi-wo-ki-tte-ku-da-sai) = Please cut my bangs.
- もう少し前髪を切ってください。(mō-su-ko-shi-ma-e-ga-mi-wo-ki-tte-ku-da-sai) = Please cut my bangs a bit more. ("A bit more, my bangs, the object, cut please.")
- もみあげ (mo-mi-a-ge) = sideburns [a strip of hair grown by a man down each side of the face in front of his ears. 🧔]
- もみあげは残してください。(mo-mi-a-ge-wa-no-ko-shi-te-ku-da-sai) = Please leave my sideburns. ("The sideburns, please leave unfinished.")
- バリカン (ba-ri-kan) = hair clippers (in the sense 'electric hair clipper/shaver/trimmer' as used by barbers. Origin, 'Bariquand et Marre', a French company[2].)
- 美人 (bi-jin) = beautiful woman ("beautiful person")
- 健太は美人と結婚した。(ken-ta-wa-bi-jin-to-ke-kkon-shi-ta) = Kenta got married to a beautiful woman.

- 赤毛 (a-ka-ge) = red hair / red-haired (adj.)
- マリアは赤毛です。(ma-ri-a-wa-a-ka-ge-de-su) = Maria is a redhead.
- アイルランド人のいとこは赤毛です。(ai-ru-ran-do-jin-no-i-to-ko-wa-a-ka-ge-de-su) = My Irish cousin is a redhead. ("Irish cousin, regarding him, is a red-head" or "Ireland man's cousin, regarding him, is a read-head.")
- 金髪 (kim-pa-tsu) = blond hair ("golden hair")
- 金髪の男性は誰ですか?(kim-pa-tsu-no-dan-sei-wa-da-re-de-su-ka) = Who is the blond man?
- 彼氏は茶髪にした。(ka-re-shi-wa-cha-pa-tsu-ni-shi-ta) = My boyfriend dyed his hair brown. ("[He] acted to a brown hair.")
- 彼女は天然の茶髪です。(ka-no-jo-wa-ten-nen-no-cha-pa-tsu-de-su) = She is a natural brunette. ("Regarding her, it is nature's brown hair.")
- 白髪 (shi-ra-ga) = grey-haired
- 白髪を染めたいんですが。(shi-ra-ga-wo-so-me-ta'in-de-su-ga) = I would like to dye my grey hair.
- 髪を茶髪に染めたい。(ka-mi-wo-cha-pa-tsu-ni-so-me-tai) = I want to dye my hair brown. ("I want to dye the hair at brown-hair.")
- 彼女は髪を金髪に染めた。(ka-no-jo-wa-ka-mi-wo-kim-pa-tsu-ni-so-me-ta) = She dyed her hair blonde.
- 髪の毛を染める人がいるが、自然のままが一番美しい。(ka-mi-no-ke-wo-so-me-ru-hi-to-ga-i-ru-ga, shi-zen-no-ma-ma-ga-i-chi-ban-u-tsu-ku-shī) = Some people dye their hair, but it looks most beautiful in its natural color. ("There exist people who dye their hair, but natural (aka. nature's condition / nature's state) is still the most beautiful.")
- 目立つ (me-da-tsu) = to stand out
- 彼の金髪はとても目立つ。(ka-re-no-kim-pa-tsu-wa-to-te-mo-me-da-tsu) = His blond hair really stands out.
- 彼女は目立って元気になった。(ka-no-jo-wa-me-da-tte-gen-ki-ni-na-tta) = She has gotten noticeably better. ("She has gotten better whilst standing out.")

- ひげ (hi-ge) = beard / moustache / facial hair
- 髪型 (ka-mi-ga-ta) = hairstyle ("hair type / model / mould")
- くし (ku-shi) = comb
- かゆい (ka-yui) = itchy
- 目がかゆいです。(me-ga-ka-yui-de-su) = My eyes are itchy.
- 髪をとかさなくてはいけない。(ka-mi-wo-to-ka-sa-na-ku-te-wa-i-ke-nai) = I have to comb my hair. ["It would not do if I don't comb my hair." (It would not work, it would not fly, it would not go, it would not be a good thing if I don't... That sort of sense.)[3]]
- 彼の髪はきちんとくしでとかされていた。(ka-re-no-ka-mi-wa-ki-chin-to-ku-shi-de-to-ka-sa-re-te-i-ta) = His hair had been neatly combed.
- 妹はくしで髪をとかした。(i-mō-to-wa-ku-shi-de-ka-mi-wo-to-ka-shi-ta) = My little sister combed her hair.
- 乾かし方 (ka-wa-ka-shi-ka-ta) = how to dry ("the method of drying")
- 髪を乾かしてください。(ka-mi-wo-ka-wa-ka-shi-te-ku-da-sai) = Please dry your hair.
- 体を乾かしなさい。(ka-ra-da-wo-ka-wa-ka-shi-na-sai) = Dry your body.
- ...に似合う (...-ni-ni-a-u) = It suits ... / It looks good on ... .
