Activity 1 is the nineteenth skill in the Japanese Language course. It has seven lessons and teaches some common verbs and the days of the week, alongside the past tense.

It's all in the past[]
The past tense in Japanese is pretty simple. All you have to do is replace ます with ました:
- 家にいます = I am staying at home -> 家にいました = I was staying at home.
For negative sentences, add on でした:
- パンを食べません = I am not eating bread. -> パンを食べませんでした = I was not eating bread.

Lesson 1[]
- 働きます (ha-ta-ra-ki-masu) = I work (はたらきます)
- 時間 (ji-kan) = time, hour/hours (じかん)
- いつ (i-tsu) = when, what time
- 来ます (ki-ma-su) = to come (きます)
- 来ますか？ (ki-ma-su-ka) = is ... going to come? (きますか)
Lesson 2[]
- 仕事 (shi-goto) = job, work (しごと)
- お仕事は？ (o-shi-go-to-wa) = what is your job? (おしごとは)
- 今日 (kyou) = today (きょう)
- パーティー (paa-tii) = party/parties
- ました (ma-shi-ta)= did (past tense)
- 家にいます (i-e-ni-i-ma-su) = I am staying home (いえにいます)
- 買います (kai-ma-su) = I buy/I will buy (かいます)
- 買いますか？ (kai-ma-su-ka) = will you buy it? (かいますか)
- します (shi-ma-su) = I will do/I will have
Lesson 3[]
- 昨日 (ki-nou) = yesterday (きのう)
- ませんでした (ma-sen-de-shi-ta) = did not (past tense)
- 勉強 (ben-kyou) = study (べんきょう)
- 勉強します (ben-kyou-shi-ma-su) = I study (べんきょうします)
- 勉強しません (ben-kyou-shi-ma-sen) = I will not study (べんきょうしません)
- 勉強しませんでした (ben-kyou-shi-ma-sen-de-shi-ta) = I did not study (べんきょうしませんでした)
- 来ました (ki-ma-shi-ta) = I came (きました)
- 仕事でした (shi-go-to-de-shi-ta) = I worked (しごとでした)

- 曜日 (you-bi) = day of the week (ようび)
- 日曜日 (ni-chi-you-bi) = Sunday (にちようび)
- と (to) = with
- 友達 (to-mo-da-chi) = friend/friends (ともだち)
Lesson 5[]
- 金曜日 (kin-you-bi) = Friday (きんようび)
- 土曜日 (do-you-bi) = Saturday (どようび)
- 明日 (a-shi-ta) = tomorrow (あした)
- 忙しい (i-so-ga-shii) = busy (いそがしい)
Lesson 6[]
- 月 (tsu-ki/ge-tsu) = month/moon (つき/げつ）
- 月曜日 (ge-tsu-you-bi) = Monday (げつようび)
- 火曜日 (ka-you-bi) = Tuesday (かようび)
- 水曜日 (sui-you-bi) = Wednesday (すいようび)
- 木曜日 (mo-ku-you-bi) = Thursday (もくようび)
- 明後日 (a-sa-tte) = the day after tomorrow (あさって)
Lesson 7[]
- 平日 (hei-ji-tsu) = weekdays (へいじつ)
- 週末 (shuu-ma-tsu) = weekend/weekends (しゅうまつ)
- 一昨日 (o-to-to-i) = the day before yesterday (おととい)
