Verbs: Present Reflexive is the forty-fifth skill in the Hebrew language tree (assuming read left to right). It teaches the fourth binyan, הִתְפַּעֵל (hitpa'el) and contains six lessons.
Grammar Notes[]
Hitpa'el verbs tend to refer to reflexive actions such as shaving; that is, things that you do to yourself. They can also refer to processes, many of which are translated into English with the verbs "to get X" and "to become X". Some of them fit into neither of these groups, but they conjugate the same way (maybe they had that meaning in the past and now they don't).
A hitpa'el verb will look like this for the most part: ///להת. The conjugation of hitpa'el verbs looks like this:
להתגלח | Masculine | Feminine |
---|---|---|
Singular | מתגלח | מתגלחת |
Plural | מתגלחים | מתגלחות |
There are exceptions to the above pattern: if the three-letter pattern that follows the ת begins with a ס/ש/ז/צ, then the ת will switch places with that letter and, in case of ז and צ, the ת will turn into a ד or a ט respectively.
