Nif'al is the fifty-third skill in the language tree for Hebrew. It has four lessons and teaches the final one of the seven Hebrew binyanim.

Grammar NotesEdit

Nif'al is the proper passive of pa'al verbs. However, it is used for a large number of active verbs and the line between passive and active is not quite as simple as in English:

  • I close the door. - .אני סוגר את הדלת
  • The door closes (or "is closed" or "is closing"). - .הדלת נסגרת

The conjugation for nif'al verbs is as follows:

Masculine Feminine
Singular XXXנ (niXXaX) הXXXנ (niXXeXet)
Plural יםXXXנ (niXXaXim) ותXXXנ (niXXaXot)
