Adjectives 1 is the twelfth skill (assuming read left to right) in the Hebrew language tree. In this skill, various adjectives are introduced in a variety of different ways.

Grammar Notes[]

Adjective Placement[]

Adjectives always follow the noun they modify. Possessives will then follow the adjectives.

Copula and Definite Articles with Adjectives[]

Adjectives come in different ways and different places depending on their meaning:

  • דגים טעימים = tasty fish
  • דגים הם טעימים = fish are tasty.
  • הכלב גדול = the dog is big.
  • הכלב הגדול = the big dog

Note the copula particle (הם) in the second sentence. This is important, as it differentiates between it and the one before it. The copula particle is the same as the pronoun for the object and matches the noun ("fish", in this case) in gender and number.

Note also that in the final one, the definite article is attached to both "dog" and "big". This shows that they are a unit, unlike the sentence above it.
