Roommate is the thirty-ninth skill in the German language course. It has five lessons and teaches more imperative forms and some helpful vocabulary for talking about living arrangements and chores.

Grammar Notes

Imperative forms (sometimes called "command forms") are verb tenses that express orders, requests and demands. For the du form, simply take the du form of the verb and remove the -st from the end:

• du zahlst -> zahl
• du trinkst -> trink

For the ihr form, use the ihr form without the ihr:

• ihr habt -> habt
• ihr esst -> esst

The only exceptions to this is the du form for sein, "to be", which is irregular:

• du bist -> sei

Also, if the du form is irregular because the "a" inside it is replaced by "ä", the imperative form will still use the regular "a":

• du lässt -> lass (not läss)

Lesson 5

• hilfreich = helpful
