Passive Voice is the one hundred and sixth (assuming left to right) skill in the German language tree. In the two lessons of this skill, the learner of German is taught how to form the passive voice for both the present and the past tenses. The passive voice itself in English is formed like this sentence.

Grammar notesEdit

The passive voice in German is much the same as the passive voice in English; it uses an auxiliary (in this case werden) and a past participle. The only important note here is that the passive voice is relatively rare in German, unlike in English, so active voice is usually your best friend.

  • Das wurde von mir entdeckt = That was found by me.
  • Er wurde von einem Freund gefolgt = He was followed by a friend.

Lesson 1Edit
