On Break is the fortieth skill in the German language tree. It has five lessons and teaches about the dative case in German while also teaching vocabulary about travelling and vacation activities.
Grammar Notes[]
We've been regularly using the dative case already with zu:
- Ich esse Popcorn zum Mittagessen. = I'm eating popcorn for lunch.
That little "m" comes from dem, which is the dative!
In this skill, we'll start using it with mit:
- Ich gehe mit meiner Oma fischen. = I'm going fishing with my grandma.
- Gehst du mit deinem Vater im Ausland? = Are you going abroad with your father?
The masculine and neuter forms end in -em, while the feminine ends in -er. The plural ends in -en, and if the plural noun doesn't end in -n already, add it:
- Ich kann mit meinen Freunden grillen. = I can grill with my friends. (instead of Freunde)
