Events is the twenty-sixth skill in the German language tree. It has five lessons and teaches some new pronouns and grammar concepts while talking about celebrations.
Grammar Notes[]
Quarter to eleven[]
When telling time in German, you use vor to describe how many minutes "to" the hour it is:
- Es ist fünf Minuten vor acht. = It's five minutes to eight.
Also, the word for "quarter" in German is Viertel, but you do not put ein in front of it:
- Es ist Viertel vor neun. = It's a quarter to nine.
Nicht again![]
Whenever there are two verbs in a sentence and you are also using nicht, the nicht comes before the second verb:
- Ich kann die Rechnung nicht zahlen. = I can't pay the bill.
- Er möchte das Weißbier nicht bestellen. = He wouldn't like to order the wheat beer.
You, me and us[]
In a previous skill we saw mich meant "me" in the accusative case. In this skill, we're also introduced to the accusative forms of du and wir, dich and uns:
- Ich liebe dich. = I love you.
- Er kann uns helfen. = He can help us.
