Apartment is the seventeenth skill in the German language course. It has five lessons and teaches some furniture and room vocabulary.

Grammar Notes

Nicht and kein

The difference between nicht and kein is that nicht negates verbs and definite nouns (nouns preceded by "the", "this" or "that")...

• Ich mag den Tisch nicht. = I don't like the table.

...while kein negates indefinite nouns (especially ones beginning with "a/an"):

• Ich mag keinen Tisch. = I don't like any tables.

• sind = are (plurals)
• der Stuhl = chair
• haben = have (plurals)
• modern = modern
• hässlich = ugly

Lesson 2

• wir = we
• keinen = none, not a (masc. acc.)
• brauchen = to need
• der Teppich = carpet
• du brauchst = you need
• ich mag = I like

Lesson 3

• das Schlafzimmer = bedroom
• die Couch = couch
• bequem = comfortable
• der Schrank = closet
• du magst = you like
• der Schreibtisch = desk

Lesson 4

• die Lampe = lamp
• die Wohnung = apartment
• hell = bright
• sauber = clean
• wer = who

Lesson 5

• fantastisch = fantastic
• das Bücherregal = bookshelf
• das Badezimmer = bathroom
• dunkel = dark
• das Bett = bed
