In Duolingo you can follow and be followed by Friends. You can see the friends you follow and users who follow you on the web and the apps. You receive a notification each time a user adds you as a friend.

You can see the XP of all your friends, but friends can be blocked.

The main (and only) feature of Friends is the Friends ranking.

Also on the web you can go to any profile from the forums. In the profile there is a "Follow" button.

On the apps in the "Friends" section of your profile there is the "Add" button.

  • Tap on the profile icon on the Duolingo platform.
  • Look for the 'add friends' option and tap on it.
  • You will then have several options to add friends:
    • Find friends from your device’s contact list.
    • Connect Facebook with Duolingo and sync your friend list from there.
    • Send invites to friends to join Duolingo via WhatsApp, text, etc.
  • Additionally, you can add people recommended by Duolingo or directly search for them in the search bar using their email address, name, or username.
  • When you find the user you want to follow, tap on the follow button (which is blue in color). Once you do this, it turns to the 'following' option, and the people you follow will appear in your following list.
