Spanish is a Romance language with over 400 million native speakers.[1] The Spanish for English course was one of the initial courses released in Duolingo, along with French and German. It's an official language in twenty countries across Latin America, as well as its native country of Spain in Europe.
Spanish is an Ibero-Romance language that developed in the "Castile" region of Spain and this variety of Spanish is known as "Castilian" Spanish. It spread across the Atlantic through Christopher Columbus conquering the Americas, bringing in Spanish through other conquistadors (conquers) with him and this caused Spanish to spread from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego. [1][2]
The Spanish for English course contains 268 skills, and there are Duolingo Stories for it.
