Negative 1 is the fourth skill in the Dutch language tree. It has only one lesson and teaches how to form a negative sentence in Dutch.

Grammar NotesEdit

Niet vs. GeenEdit

Dutch has two different ways of saying "not" and they are not interchangeable. They need to be used in specific circumstances:

  • Geen: negating indefinite nouns (you can think of it as "no" things or "none of" a thing if that helps). Geen replaces the indefinite pronoun in question.
  • Niet: negating a verb, adjective or definite nouns. Niet comes at the end of a sentence or directly after the verb zijn.

  • nee = no
  • niet = not
  • geen = not
