Directions is the fifty-fifth (assuming left to right) skill in the Dutch language tree. In these four lessons, the learner of Dutch learns various directions and movement phrases, including postpositions.

Grammar Notes[]

Postpositions[]

When in, uit or op come after the noun they modify, they describe movement into or out of the place in question. This is completely different from the meaning of the preposition equivalent (i.e. when it comes before):

  • ik loop in het bos. = I walk (around) in the forest.
  • ik loop het bos in. = I walk into the forest.
